THE CHOICE

The major thing in life is to simply to do this. It will not only remove half of the problems but also give a clearer vision in life

 What is it?

 It is to identify and separate matters into two parts, the matters you can control and the matters you cannot. Now, the task is simply to do those which you can control. There is no point in thinking about those which are outside your control.

          Here is a quote by Epictetus-

"The chief task in life is simply this: to identify and separate matters so that I can say clearly to myself which are externals not under my control, and which have to do with choices I actually control. Where then do i look for good and evil? Not to uncontrollable externals, but within myself to the choices that are my own..."

Why this works?

The major thing is we have limited time in our day, it is our choice to give it to things that actually matter and are actually fruitful. There will be no point in wasting mental energy in thinking about topics you cannot control.

Give me some examples?

Let's assume someone suffered a lot in their childhood but now they have grown up. if we consider it there is no point in thinking about it now because no matter how hard they try they cannot change it.

Similarly, when you are at the airport and the flight gets delayed because of weather, no amount of yelling and shouting can change it. this is the time spent on uncontrollable things. Instead, spending that time over something useful can actually get you something.

Another incident can be thinking about results once you have given an exam, no amount of thinking and worrying can change it, instead focusing on studying for later can actually help you.



 

 To Sum Up-

  • To conclude, take control of your life and thoughts by working on the actual controllable tasks. There will be no use of worrying over unchangeable results.
  • Focus on the present, create your future, no matter of worrying on uncontrollable things like weather or how someone treated you in the past can actually change those experiences. Focus on the thing you have actual control over like working hard no matter what the result will be.
  • We can focus on the parts of our day which are controllable and which are not.
  • As there is no advantage in fighting in an unwinnable battle no matter how hard people try.
